picture St. Stephen's Cathedral is a very interesting place. Do you know that the spire of this cathedral was the Half-Moon and Star Islamic symbol until 1686? Nevertheless, most people believe that it was a symbol of the interplay between spiritual and secular power (pope and emperor as a sun and moon respectively). In 1686 the Half-Moon and Star were taken down and replaced by a Cross.

picture This military monument in the center of Vienna is devoted to the emancipation of Vienna from Nazi troops by the Soviet Army. It is interesting that there is a text of Soviet leader Stalin’s order on the pedestal of the monument (in Russian). The point is that most architectural features linked with Stalin were destroyed in Soviet Union and other socialist countries. So, this architectural artifact was saved in Vienna because Austria never been a socialist country.

picture We have found only one photo of this person in Vienna. This is a probable case of discrimination of bearded women in Vienna. One could expect to find 10 such photos at least.
